Homemade Marinara Sauce

People have pretty strong beliefs about what should and shouldn’t belong in a nice homemade tomato sauce.  I make a fairly simple sauce, stocked full of hearty vegetables and a few simple seasonings.  It works for us.  It is a great base to then add any sort of meat or other vegetables you might want.

2 cans crushed tomatoes (28 ounces each)

1 can tomato paste (6 ounces)

1 medium onion

3 garlic cloves

3 carrots

1 red pepper

1 tablespoon oregano

1 tablespoon basil

1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper

salt and pepper to taste

1. Add the crushed tomatoes to a saucepan over medium high heat

2. Blend onion, garlic, carrots and pepper in blender

3. Add blended vegetables to the crushed tomatoes and stir it together

4. Add the tomato paste and stir together

5. Bring to a simmer

6.  Add seasoning and taste

7.  Simmer on stove for 20-25 minutes
